1:1 Consultations
Hello everyone, Mateja here — I just finished a webinar talking about what we do as CSCs and how seemingly ordinary consultations can lead to extraordinary results.
I would like to share a good news success story from the past month that came as a result of an employment counsellor attending that webinar and then booking to discuss a client who needed additional support to integrate into work:
The client successfully obtained an administrative position with an insurance company in the community and is a person who uses a wheelchair, but the space the business runs out of is currently not fully accessible. Through the consultation we were able to do a site visit and The Hub team was able to support the EC to purchase the appropriate assistive devices to smooth the transition, as well as have the EC connect and advocate with the ODSP worker to do a wheelchair ergonomic assessment and the landlord who owns the building to plan for upgrades to make the space more accessible for everyone — providing resources for community partners who have access to grants to support this process.
Everything is figure-out-able when we work together to break down barriers!
If you would like to book a consult with a CSC to discuss any clients you'd like support with, reach out today.
Occupational Therapy — Success Story
A client was referred for a cognitive assessment. During the assessment, the OT noted that the client struggled to articulate their speech and their speech was somewhat distorted. The client expressed frustration that they often were not understood by people around them. After the assessment, the OT asked the client if they would be comfortable exploring some Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) apps that would enable them to use their phone to speak, and the client agreed.
The OT assisted the client in setting up a free AAC app on their phone. The client's employment counsellor later told the OT that the client has been finding the app extremely valuable and uses it daily to improve their verbal communication.
